10K A Day in May

1 May 2022 - 31 May 2022

In 2016 Wakefield Hospice supporter Sarah Powala set herself the challenge of running 10K A Day In May to raise funds in memory of her Mum.

Sarah completed her challenge and at the same time inspired many people across Wakefield. In 2017 she invited others to join her. From this "Sarah's 10K A Day in May" became an annual event for Wakefield Hospice and (due to their green t-shirts) those that take part became known as the "Green Army!"

This year we're looking forward to welcoming back existing Green Army members and having new recruits join the team!  If you're not familiar with the event then here's how it works...

  • You decide whether you want to challenge yourself to walk, run or cycle 10K every day in May or complete as many 10K walks, runs or cycles as you can within the month. You don't have to choose just one of the three - you can mix it up and do all of them (you only need to register once!)
  • Once registered we'll keep in touch with you to let you know where Sarah will be running each day (we will email you each week with the next set of runs). The routes are bike friendly, so suitable for cyclists too.  If the time and location suit you then you may choose to join her for that days run.  If it's not convenient that you can run your own 10K at a time and location that is!

On the final day in May the route will set off from Wakefield Hospice and end at a location where there will be the opportunity to celebrate your success with the rest of the Green Army!

The aim this year is to raise £11,500 which is how much it costs to run Wakefield Hospice for one day.  If we achieve this goal then Wednesday 13th October will be dedicated to Sarah's mum on what would have been her birthday.

Throughout the month the Green Army link together over social media and Strava.

This is not a timed or competitive race, so it's suitable for any level of walker, runner or cyclist.

Registration is £35 (this is a one off payment for the whole month) for which you will receive a technical t-shirt.  The cost has been calculated to cover the costs of the challenge and to pay for one hour of nursing care at the hospice.

We would love you to raise sponsorship! If you raise £100 or more you will also receive a hoodie as a token of our appreciation.
