Join Junction Arts, artist Cora Glasser and a series of exciting guest speakers and artists for our This Girl Codes Curiosity Academy at Creswell Crags this summer. Throughout the week, you will get exclusive access to the incredible caves to see the Witch Marks, learn about the rich layers of history on the site and then take part in a range of inspiring arts, tech and heritage activities each day.

The work you create with us, whether you can only attend one day or all five will inspire a new interactive exhibition that will be showcased within Creswell Crags from September.

27th July Bletchley Park Research trip info:  Bletchley Park is world-famous for being the top-secret location of the World War Two codebreakers. Now a heritage site and museum, you can discover the amazing work carried out on site which historians believe shortened WW2 by two to four years. The world’s first programmable digital electronic computer was developed at Bletchley and in 1945 three quarters of the codebreaking personnel were women.

We will spend the day learning about all that went on at Bletchley Park and have a private, guided tour. We are particularly interested in the ‘Art of Data’ exhibition which shows how data can be visualised to help us make sense of the world. The exhibition shows how the codebreakers visualised data alongside contemporary examples and how this data can be turned into 3D, animated and interactive pieces.

A coach will leave Pillar of Rock, Bolsover at 8:30am sharp, arriving at Bletchley Park around 10:30am. You will need to bring a packed lunch or money for the on-site café. The coach will leave Bletchley Park at 4pm aiming to arrive back in Bolsover for 6/6:30pm.

T&C’s:
Due to the nature of the content, we recommend This Girl Codes for children aged 7 or older. Children must be 5 years or older to go in the caves, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult/guardian. Staff are DBS checked so over 12s can be left with the project team however we ask that you contact [email protected] to let us know after booking your ticket.

All visitors must wear a helmet (which will be provided) and adults must wear a face mask when in the caves, and consent to the caves being secured from the inside while the tour is in progress. Eating, drinking and smoking is NOT permitted inside the caves or main exhibition. Dogs are not permitted in the museum unless they are support dogs. In this instance we ask that you let us know in advance so that we can make appropriate arrangements. Dogs are not permitted in the caves. Please contact us in advance of booking a tour if you would like to visit with a support dog.

Accessibility Information:
The Caves are situated within a natural landscape. Unfortunately, the caves are not accessible for wheelchair users/those with some mobility issues. You will need to walk 10 minutes to reach the caves and remain standing throughout the tour/activity. The caves are accessed from the footpath via wooden stairs, with further stairs inside each cave. In Robin Hood Cave, there is a section of low ceiling which makes it necessary to crouch down in order to walk under, and also uneven floors to navigate. Although the helmets are equipped with a headlamp, light levels may not be sufficient for those with visual perception difficulties, or people who are blind or partially sighted. Light levels may also be insufficient for those who lipread. There are cave spiders at Creswell Crags. Whilst they can be large, they are harmless and protected. Please contact us if you have any queries or concerns about accessing the caves.
