It is more than 50 years since a committee supporting Cancer Research was first established in Llangollen. The name may have changed once or twice over the years, but the dedication to the cause is the same. The current committee for Cancer Research UK in Llangollen organises several fundraising events every year and The Llangollen Round Challenge is the biggest of those events.  Held tri-ennially it is a venture realised through the inspiration, hard work and generous sponsorship of local people and businesses.

Event Details & What You Can Expect

  • The walk starts and finishes at the Leisure Centre, Dinas Bran School, Llangollen LL20 8TG.
  • You can enter for either the 1 day or the 2 day event.  One day entrants will need to complete the 35 miles within 15 1/2 hours on the Saturday.  Two day entrants will need to complete 17.5 miles in 11 hours on both days.
  • The event aims to raise money for Cancer Research UK and we want to make your fundraising efforts as easy as possible.  Each entrant will automatically receive a link to their own digital sponsorship page.
  • All participants will receive a certificate and a medal.
  • There will be 5 checkpoints, all offering free light refreshments (water, fruit, cake etc).  More substantial meals will be available at two of the checkpoints at own cost.
  • The route will be fully waymarked and each entrant will receive a free printed booklet of the route (normally £5) on the day as well as a .pdf copy emailed beforehand and a link to a .gpx file for those who like to plan their route electronically.
  • A free bus shuttle will transfer all 2 day walkers from the Ponderosa Café on the top of the Horseshoe Pass back to the car park, (5 mins walk from the Leisure Centre), on completion of day 1 and will return them to the Ponderosa on Sunday morning.
  • The event includes sections of moorland rising to 630m above sea level.  Paths are not difficult underfoot but total ascent and descent is around 2000m.  Suitable clothing and footwear is essential.
  • Emergency First Aiders will be on hand throughout the published event times.
  • All entrants must be at least 18 years of age unless accompanied by a parent or guardian and the minimum age for all participants is 15.  We regret that on the advice of local vets no dogs are allowed.
