The Beckwith – Inaugural Event, 2022
In November 1922, Alfred Beckwith (Pupil No 1), walked through the doors of Lord Wandsworth Agricultural College here in Long Sutton and brought Sydney James Stern’s legacy to life. Our Sternians will have memories of running up to Quercus in Sheephouse Copse on a regular basis, taking in the amazing views around our stunning estate. We have wanted to give the whole LWC community the opportunity to follow in their footsteps and explore our wider campus for some time. The Beckwith, and our Centenary year, seemed the perfect opportunity to do this! It will be a wonderful occasion with pupils, Sternians, parents, staff, governors and friends all running, or walking, together and enjoying LWC’s incredible 1200 acres.
The entire family are welcome to take part in The Beckwith, either walking or running the route. It begins at the Acorn Gates and takes in some of our most iconic areas around the estate including Sheephouse Copse, the infamous Quercus, and Heaven and Hell. Choose from the 5k or 10k route, and for those competitive runners amongst us there is the option to log your race times and be in with a chance to be the first name on our Beckwith leader-board.
There will be plenty of delicious food and drinks available to purchase before and after you have completed The Beckwith, from bacon sandwiches and pastries when you arrive to pizza and burgers etc. for lunch afterwards.
Supporting The Foundation
All profits from this event will go towards The Foundation. In our first 100 years, it has been our pleasure and privilege to welcome over 2500 Foundationers into the LWC family. Your support ensures we can continue to offer transformational awards for an LWC education to children who have lost the support of a parent, the majority through bereavement.
