The Impact

Every week across Ireland, another 10 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer. Cancer treatment is frightening, challenging, and isolating, and can devastate families emotionally, physically, and financially.

By getting stuck into the Bog Run this October, you will be helping to ensure we can continue with our vital services so that families, just like Lisa's, don't have to face cancer alone...

"My name is Lisa. I’m 37, I’m from Belfast and I have two sons. Ciaran is my eldest, he is 14 and Coen is only 4.

I found a lump in my throat in March 2021 and after undergoing surgery to have it removed they discovered that it was thyroid cancer. I had to have another surgery in May and then went through radiation in July.

We were supported by Cancer Support Specialist, Joe. He worked with Ciaran in 1 to 1 sessions, encouraging him to come out of his shell and talk about his own experience of my diagnosis.

During my treatment I just switched off. I tried to block it all out. Now I’m in remission and my goal is to keep looking forward.

This is my first year to take part in the Bog Run and I can’t wait. My family and I really want to get involved and give back to the charity that supported us. My son Ciaran will also be taking part and Coen will be cheering us on!

I think after 2 years of doom and gloom, we really want to be able to have some fun and have a laugh and this event sounds perfect for that. It will give us the chance to raise money for charity while also having a good time."
