The Big Bristol Abseil is BACK on Sunday 26 September 2021 and bigger than ever!

Whether you’re looking to conquer your fear of heights, wanting to raise money for Bristol's hospitals, or just looking for a fun thing to do with friends in the name of a good cause, this event is for you.

Become a hospital hero on Sunday 26 September 2021 and abseil down Bristol Children’s Hospital (fancy dress not essential, but allowed!).

No training is needed – our fully qualified events team at Dave Talbot Adventure Events will be on hand on the day to provide full support and coaching.

Sign up to the Big Bristol Abseil as an individual or as a team - don't miss out on this fantastic event!

Registration is £25 and the fundraising target for this event is £200. The registration fee covers most of your costs, meaning more of your fundraising goes directly to the hospitals.

You can enter on your own or put together a team and abseil as a group. The maximum team size is 8. You can choose your time slot to make sure you’re all together on the day.

Your support will make real difference to patients and staff at our hospitals. Thank you for being a Bristol hospital hero.

FAQs

How fit do I need to be to take part?

You don’t need to train for this event, but it is suggested you have a reasonable level of mobility. Please note that there are 165 steps to walk up to the abseil point; please do let us know if you are unable to walk up this amount of steps, the lifts will be available if needed.

Being able to climb a flight of stairs quickly, jump a foot off the ground and climb over a fence unattended are good examples of the mobility needed for this event. Please fill out the medical form here: https://form.jotformeu.com/211322411444339 before the event. Please note that all participants will be required to walk the final flight of stairs from the lift to the abseil point.

Are there any restrictions?

Age – All participants must be aged 18 or over, unless they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (in this case, a minimum age of 14 then applies.) The parent or guardian must complete a Parental Consent Form prior to the event.

Weight – The weight restriction for this event is 20 stone. If this applies to you, get in touch and we will discuss the possibility of participation with the events company.

I’ve never fundraised before, and I don’t know where to start. What do I do?

A dedicated staff member will get in touch with you shortly after signing up to help you plan out your fundraising! Fundraising is fun and exciting once you know what to do. We support you every step of the way to make sure you have the best experience!

What if I don't reach the minimum sponsorship target?

By registering for this challenge you are pledging to raise the minimum sponsorship of £200 and understand that it is the aim of this challenge to raise as much as possible for your hospitals. If you cannot raise the minimum sponsorship your place will be forfeited unless you make up the balance yourself.

Don’t worry, our fundraising team is on hand to help you reach the target and make the whole experience fun!

Will the event be Covid-19 safe?

The Big Bristol Abseil will have extra safety measures and we’ll be sending out additional guidance to all participants ahead of the day.

The health and wellbeing of those taking part, their friends and family, and patients and staff on the hospital sites is our primary concern. We will continue to review the situation in line with the Government advice.

Please do not attend the event if you have displayed any Covid symptoms in the 14 days in the run up to the event.

What if I can no longer take part due to self-isolation or Covid?

Unfortunately in this scenario we will not be able to refund either your registration fee or your sponsorship as it will be too late to offer the place to another individual.

What if the event can’t go ahead?

We sincerely hope the Big Bristol Abseil will be able to go ahead, but there is the potential for further disruption due to the pandemic. In this event, we will transfer your place to a new date for the event.

If we need to move the Big Bristol Abseil, we will still owe payment to many of our suppliers and in some cases we may need to pay twice. This could put a big hole in the money raised for Bristol city centre hospitals and, as such, we respectfully ask that if you can’t make the new date for the event that you kindly donate your registration fee.

What happens to the money I raise?

The money you raise will help our Bristol city centre hospitals and their staff to do even more to treat and care for patients and their families, wherever the need is greatest.
