The Army Benevolent Fund’s Norfolk Committee invite you to join us for an evening of outstanding music performed by The Band of The Brigade of Gurkhas at Norwich Cathedral. Having recently relocated to improved facilities at Merville Barracks, Colchester, this will be their FIRST concert in their new home region of East Anglia. We are delighted to host the Band for what will be a truly exceptional evening.

The Band was raised in November 1859 as part of an Indian Army Gurkha Regiment called the Sirmoor Rifle Regiment. It had 16 Bandsmen and one Naik (a leader) and soon became a part of Regimental life, playing for parades, polo matches, dinners and troop entertainment at the Regimental base at Dehra Dun, North East of Dehli. In the early days the Band travelled with the Regiment to other areas of India, Malta, Cyprus and Afghanistan.

The Army Benevolent Fund is the Army’s National Charity. It was set up in 1944 as the Second World War was ending to support soldiers, veterans and their families to stop hardship and give independence and dignity in times of need. The ABF provides a lifetime of support for the Army family. Last year, the ABF indirectly helped 80,000 soldiers, veterans and their families in 52 countries through the grants it provides. Our support is truly for life, with individuals supported aged from just 3 years old to 105 years old. We supported and partially funded a total of 93 charities / organisations last year which help to support the Army Family. The ABF supports people from across the East Anglia region through individual grants and funding, last year we supported 218 cases amounting to a spend of over £150,000.
