A Message from Haroon Mota
Charity Right Ambassador, Founder of Active Inclusion Network
"After all major running events were cancelled during the pandemic, I set myself a new mega-challenge – running 260km in the month of Ramadan while fasting. This spur of the moment decision became something more; I ended up raising over £50,000 and it became a means of inspiring people to remain active and exercise safely during the blessed month.
It was exactly this experience that inspired the inception of The Ramadan Challenge. I’d love for you to join me with an activity of your choice – personalised at a level or distance that suits you. Let's get active and make a difference to young lives together."
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the Ramadan Challenge?
Whether you like running, cycling or any other physical activity, the Ramadan Challenge is your chance to get active this Ramadan and provide children and young people with free school meals.
Pick whichever activity you like and start fundraising for Charity Right to make Ramadan a month of action, impact and generosity.
2. Can I sign up as part of a group?
Yes, you can sign up as an individual or as part of a group! Get your friends, family and colleagues involved for a bit of competitive fun this Ramadan.
3. I’ve set a goal for the challenge, but can no longer achieve it. Does this mean I’ve failed?
Not at all! This is your challenge, your way. Is walking no longer working for you? That’s fine, go ahead and try cycling instead. Feel free to chop and change the goal posts throughout the month.
4. I’ve never fundraised before. What do you recommend?
You’ve picked a brilliant opportunity to start! You’ll probably find that fundraising for a cause like this isn’t as hard as you imagine, but here are a few tips for first timers.
- Personalise your fundraising page - decide on a challenge and share your story!
- Have fun - the enthusiasm is infectious and persuades other people to sponsor you.
- Focus on the target - set daily or weekly goals and you'll be sure to hit your activity and fundraising target!
- Anyone can be a donor - start with obvious people, like friends and family, before moving onto colleagues and casual acquaintances. But don’t be afraid to be ambitious – strangers and your local businesses are great to reach out to as well!
- Seek support from others - we're here to support you every step of the way!
5. Can children join the challenge?
Yes, of course! This challenge is perfect for people of all ages – and therefore can be customised to child-friendly activities and progress. All you have to do is sign them up and you’re all set!
6. What activities can I do?
The sky’s the limit!
You can pick something as simple as walking or running a certain distance, cycling to work or beating a personal record at the gym. Or perhaps you could even set a goal based on how much activity you do per day or per week – it’s entirely up to you.
No matter what your chosen activity is and what goals you set, so long as it’s active, it counts!
7. I’m having issues signing up. Who should I contact to assist me?
Not to worry - technical issues happen to the best of us! If you're stuck or running into any difficulty at all, just send a message to [email protected], and we'll help you out.
8. I’m not Muslim. Can I join the challenge?
Yes, absolutely – there is no exclusion criteria. If you might like to fast for one day, part of Ramadan or even half a fast, we’re happy to support you with this.
9. Do I have to join the WhatsApp group mentioned?
We welcome everyone to join the WhatsApp group, whether you're loud and chatty or the strong, silent type.
It’s a great place to be to get behind-the-scenes insight into what others are doing, share your own ups and downs, as well as tips and responses from Haroon himself.
Put simply, the WhatsApp group is the place to be a part of this wonderful community, keep up-to-date and stay motivated. Psst, you can find the link to the WhatsApp group in your sign-up confirmation email.
10. What is Strava?
Strava is a free app that connects millions of active people – runners, hikers, walkers and many more – through the sports they love. It’s like a digital journal for all your activities that allows you to set goals, update your progress and cheer others on.
Connect it to your fundraising page and use it to upload your progress, from casual weekend hikes to impressive marathons.
