Yara El-Sherbini from artist duo YARA + DAVINA will be talking about their large scale public artwork Arrivals + Departures on the theme of birth and death. She will discuss how this interactive sculptural work invites the public to celebrate and commemorate everyday people, by subverting the accessible and recognisable format of an arrivals and departures board. Yara will talk about the incredibly diverse public programme that accompanied the installation and how their socially engaged art practice creates entry points for the public to consider how to live more fully in the present.

YARA + DAVINA are a British social practice duo, who make ambitious and playful public artworks that respond to site, context and audience. Unfailingly inventive, their artworks are rooted within the everyday, using formats from popular culture to explore issues that touch on the human condition. Over the past 20 years they have created artworks for multiple world leading art venues and public organisations worldwide. They are currently exhibiting ORACLES, a public artwork at the Dulwich Picture Gallery (March-July 2024), and are working on multiple commissions including the government think tank Policy Lab, Regents Park Estate & ODAC, and the South Bank Centre.

Yara will be presenting remotely and delegates are welcome to join online or at our No17 venue at St Columba's Hospice Care.

Places are limited to 40 in-person and 100 online participants. Registration will close at midnight on 30 June 2024.  In-person tickets include tea/coffee.
