The Foundation Programme in Sexual Health Promotion aims to enhance participants capacity to incorporate sexual health promotion into their work.


The AIM of this training is to enhance participants' capacity to incorporate sexual health promotion into their work through the development of their confidence, knowledge and skills in relation to sexual health. 

This course is relevant to a wide variety of professionals, including but not limited to front line clinicians, teachers, counsellors, social workers, pscychologists, community and youth workers and representatives from the physical and interllectual disability sectors. 

After this 6-day programme, participants will have the following learning outcomes;

  1. Increased self-awareness in relation to sexual health issues and an understanding of how this might impact on their work.
  2. increased understanding of how their sexual socialisation impacts on their values and attitudes to sex.
  3. greater awareness that people are sexual beings through their life course and have needs with regards to sexual health.
  4. increased knowledge around sexual health issues.
  5. increased understanding of sexual health in the Irish context.

The course methodology takes a participatory and experiencial approach in line with adult learning principles. It requires participants to have an openness  to personal development as they explore knowledge, attitudes and values in relation to sexual health through individual, paired and group work. 

The commitment required from participants is;

  1. to attend all 6 days of the training.
  2. keep a learning journal throughout the programme and to present an action plan on the final day as to how they will intergrate their learning on the course into their work practices. 
  3. be at the training venue from 09:30am to 16:30 each day.

The course dates and venue for our next course will be in the Blackrock Education centre, Kill Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, A98 EW01 on the following dates;

Block 1: 02 - 03 April

Block 2: 07 - 08 May

Block 3: 29 - 30 May

Candidates will be invited for a short informal interview on the 05th or 06th March 2025 to assess their suitability for the course.
