Dalian Atkinson Medal Challenge
11 August 2025 - 28 October 2025
Supporters are invited to take on the "Number 10 Challenge" in tribute to a Villa legend and raise funds for a lasting legacy
In a heartfelt celebration of one of Aston Villa’s most legendary players, the Aston Villa Foundation, in partnership with the Shropshire Community Foundation (SCF), is proud to launch the Dalian Atkinson Legacy Fund Medal Challenge in a first-of-its-kind campaign honouring the life and legacy of Dalian Atkinson.
Launching on 11th of August 2025, this special edition of the Aston Villa Foundation Medal Challenge marks the first time a past player will be commemorated through the initiative. Fans and supporters are invited to take on a physical challenge themed around Atkinson’s famous number 10 shirt, with all proceeds supporting the Dalian Atkinson Legacy Fund (DALF).
The challenge runs until 28 October 2025, with participants encouraged to:
- Run 10 miles
- Cycle 10 miles
- Swim 10 lengths
- Or create their own “10” challenge
Participants are encouraged to get involved by following a link to open a fundraising page to raise sponsorship or make a minimum £30 donation to receive a commemorative DALF medal
All funds will go toward the DALF endowment, supporting causes close to Dalian’s heart youth empowerment, mental health initiatives, and inclusive access to sport for underrepresented groups.
“This campaign is about more than honouring a footballer, it’s about celebrating Dalian’s achievements and ensuring his legacy continues to provide opportunities others,” said Sonia Roberts, Trustee of SCF. “With the backing of the Aston Villa Foundation, we’re inviting fans to do something meaningful and make a lasting gift that will support tomorrow’s footballers inspired by a past football legend.”
The campaign will culminate in a special event in October, where Dalian’s brother Paul Atkinson will personally receive a cheque from Aston Villa Foundation. Former Aston Villa players are also expected to attend, with the event serving as both a celebration and a tribute.
The medal challenge has previously seen thousands of fans get active and fundraise through events like “McGinn’s 7 Merry Miles” and “Watkins Wonderland.” Now, it’s time to pay tribute to a legend whose name still echoes in Villa Park.
