Each year, more than 700,000 people take their own life around the world. For every suicide, there are many more people who attempt suicide. A prior suicide attempt is an important risk factor for suicide in the general population. Millions of people suffer intense grief or are otherwise profoundly impacted by suicidal behaviours.

IASP’s virtual cycling event, Cycle Around the Globe, is back for the eleventh year to raise awareness of suicide prevention worldwide.

From 10 September – 10 October 2024, we are asking you to cycle any distance on any road, track or gym and help us work together to prevent suicide. Our goal is to enable global participation, which is why the event is entirely free to join, and fundraising is entirely optional.

IASP leads the global effort in suicide prevention. World Suicide Prevention Day and the month-long period up to World Mental Health Day, is the primary opportunity throughout the year to raise awareness, encourage understanding and share experiences through open and supportive discussions around suicide.

By encouraging understanding, reaching in and sharing experiences, we want to give people the confidence to take action. To prevent suicide requires us to become a beacon of light to those in pain.
