80ft descent from Bath College’s Macauley Building

Take on an 80ft descent from one of the tallest buildings in Bath, Bath College’s Macauley Building. Expect incredible views, shocking drops and the challenge of a lifetime! We are incredibly grateful for the support of our partners in this event, Bath College. Expect three action packed days, filled with hair-raising fundraising right in the heart of Bath!

Funding vital end of life care across Bath and North East Somerset, and parts of Wiltshire and Somerset

Dorothy House has supported over 4,200 families living with an end of life diagnosis in the last year alone. We are working closely with Bath College on this fundraising initiative, and this is a meaningful relationship to us as we know that by the age of 16 around 1 in 20 young people will have experienced the death of a parent.

Fundraising while taking on the Bath City Abseil will mean we can continue to support families in Bath and beyond.

  • £80 could fund three hours of community nursing time, helping patients manage pain, discomfort and emotional distress, directly in a patient’s home.
  • £150 could fund 6 hours of care during the night – delivered in a patient’s home, by a compassionate, skilled and experienced Hospice at Home Carer. Providing care to patients, essential respite to families, enabling a patient to stay at home at the end of their life.
  • £500 could fund a course of 8 hour long sessions for two children or young people after the death of a parent or guardian.

As part of the registration you will select to do your abseil on either a morning or afternoon of each day of the event. We will then allocate you a specific time slot in advance of the event so you can then plan your travel to take part. There will also be space during the registration form to mention other people you'd like to abseil at a similar time with.

Who can take part:

Age and Weight Restrictions

All participants aged under 18 require a parent or legal guardian to sign an online permission form prior to taking part, or need close supervision by a parent or legal guardian on the day.

If you are a Bath City College Student, your guardian will need to sign an online permission form prior to taking part. You will not require a parent or legal guardian to be in attendance on the day, an allocated college representative will provide the adequate supervision.

We do not recommend an upper age limit for participation although we would recommend that older individuals consult their doctor if they have any concerns about their health or ability.

We can accommodate people up to 20 stone in weight, but no more due to the restrictions on equipment and loads exerted, although they may need to be fitted with extra equipment for their comfort. If you have anyone wishing to take part who is heavier than 20 stone you can contact us as soon as possible to discuss the possibility of their participation.

Dave Talbot Ltd reserves the right to decline an individual’s participation should their build be deemed unsuitable for the activity.

Fitness

You don't need to be very fit to abseil, but you do need to have a reasonable level of mobility unless otherwise stated by the event organisers.

Being able to walk quickly up a flight of stairs, jump a foot off the ground and climb over obstacles such as fences unaided, would be a good example of mobility needed.

If you have any doubt about your fitness / mobility to participate in the abseil event you have chosen, please consult the abseil organisers first and then your doctor if needed.
