The 2025 Sofi Malt Lake Hawassa Half Marathon takes place in Hawassa on Sunday 9th February 2025, the 13th edition of the race.
For international participants visiting Ethiopia the race is a great experience and can be done as a long weekend in Ethiopia, flying into Addis on the Friday and flying home on Sunday evening. You will stay in a top-quality hotel on the shores of the lake; take part in a series of activities during the weekend; and participate in the race on a scenic and flat course which finishes in the centre of town.
Hawassa is situated 275km south of Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa at an altitude of 1700m above sea level. There are several daily flights from Addis to Hawassa and we suggest that participants fly to Hawassa where you will be met at the airport and brought to the hotel. In February temperatures in Hawassa tend to rise to around 25-30C in the middle of the day but are at around 10-15C in the early morning when the half-marathon starts.
Our international package includes 2 nights' stay at Haile Resort Hawassa, race entry fee including race t-shirt and finishers' medal, pre-race pasta party on Saturday evening, Friday evening lakeside barbeque, Saturday morning sunrise walk with beautiful views over the lake and access on race day morning to the post-race Rest & Refreshment Area. This package also includes transport to all events from Haile Resort Hawassa and airport transfers from Hawassa airport. Complimentary breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday are also included.
You are responsible for arranging your own flights to Addis Ababa and connecting flights to Hawassa; and for visa fees and travel insurance.
