2020 TOTAL Great Ethiopian Run International 10k - 20th edition

Winner of “Best International Race” in the 2019 Let’s Do This / RW Challenge Awards

The Great Ethiopian Run International 10km is our flagship event and held every year in November. Since 2001 the event has been the biggest road race in Africa and has been held without interruption for the past 19 years. The 20th edition of TOTAL Great Ethiopian Run International 10km was scheduled to be held on 15 November 2020. However, due to the current situation of COVID 19, we are forced to postpone the race.

The new date for the race will be 10 January 2021

A number of precautionary measures will be in place to guard against the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

All participants have to sign a waiver form saying they undertake not to take part in the race if they have any underlying health problems that would make them more vulnerable to transmitting or becoming infected by the COVID-19 virus

Please note that race packs for non-residents are not sent out to participants. Participants must collect their packs in race week from Wednesday 6th January to Saturday 9th January 2021 from the official race desk at Hyatt Regency, Addis Ababa. The latest time for collection is 6pm on Saturday 9th January 2021.

To hydrate themselves during the run, participants will be encouraged to bring their own drink on race day. A bottle of Arki water will also be included in the race pack.

Participants are strongly advised not to come to the race on race day if they don’t feel well in the 14 days leading up to race day.

Temperature checks as participants arrive at the start; availability of hand sanitisers at multiple locations around the start and finish; and a requirement for participants to wear masks in all assembly areas at the start until the point at which they start the run and after they finish the run.

A wave system will be used for the start which will enable participants to take part in the run with a degree of distancing. The race will start in three separate colour-coded waves at three separate start times: 8.30am (green wave), 8.45am (yellow wave) and 9am (red wave). Within each wave participants will line up in distinct groups to permit more distancing. As an international online entrant, you will line up at the start as a group in the green wave. You will receive more details about entry into your start position when collecting your race pack in race week.

The course will be a point-to-point course with a finish area that is different and separated from the start. We will have a system in place that guards against the gathering of large numbers of participants as they exit the finish.

Medals will be given to all finishers. We are finalising details of how medals will be given to participants.
