Red Sky Foundation Everest Trek With Jagged Globe!

EVEREST BASE CAMP

We are taking a handful of super heart hero fundraisers to Nepal.  Walking in the shadow of the world's highest mountain we are sending a small group of Red Sky supporters to trek to the iconic Everest Base Camp, beginning an adventure in vibrant and charming Kathmandu before setting off into the heart of the Himalayas proudly flying the flag for #TeamRedSky. Traversing through spectacular gorges, hiking across suspense bridges and past majestic peaks, our team will take in the magical landscapes that will surround them on this epic route, which should be on the bucket list of every adventurer and every fundraiser.

This is a multi-day self funded trek to significant altitude (5,645m above sea level), led by experienced guides, and, although acclimatisation is slow and gradual, you will feel the effects of altitude. Tough, but truly rewarding, this challenge will leave our intrepid fundraisers with memories to last a lifetime.

Typical Itinerary

Day 1 - 2:

Fly to Kathmandu
Team members joining on a "land-only", please plan to arrive in Kathmandu on Day 2 no later than 1630, when your services will begin. Overnight hotel.

Day 3:

Fly to Lukla
Early morning drive to Ramechhap, then fixed-wing (such as a Twin Otter, Dornier 228 or similar) flight to Lukla (2,840m), the gateway to the Khumbu Valley. Trek to Phakding. Overnight lodge.

Day 4:

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,400m)
Enter the Khumbu National Park and cross the confluence of the Dudh Kosi and the Bhote Kosi. You climb steeply for about two hours up 'Namche Hill' to reach Namche Bazaar. This is a prosperous trading town and the capital of the Khumbu Region. Overnight lodge.

Day 5 - 6:

Acclimatisation in Namche Bazaar (3,400m)
You will spend three nights in Namche Bazaar to allow you to slowly acclimatise. During this period you trek to the Everest View Hotel (3,900m) and to Thame (3,844m), where Tenzing Norgay grew up. Most trekkers spend just two nights in Namche before continuing up the trail, but in our experience this additional night greatly increases you chance of reaching base camp without a head ache!

Day 7:

Trek to Deboche (3,700m)
From Namche, the well-worn Everest trail contours around the side of the valley high above the Dudh Kosi. You cross the Dudh Kosi and make a steep climb to Thyangboche, home of a famous monastery. From here you drop down to the river and the village of Deboche. Overnight lodge.

Day 8:

Trek to Dingboche (4,410m)
Trek through rhododendron to Pangboche, an excellent viewpoint for Ama Dablam. The trail then contours up the valley side and turns up the Imja Valley to reach the picturesque farming village of Dingboche. Overnight lodge.

Day 9:

Acclimatisation in Dingboche (4,410m)
You can walk over to the nearby village of Pheriche, which has a hospital run by the Himalayan Rescue Association. Return to Dingboche for the night. Overnight lodge.

Day 10:

Trek to Lobuje (4,940m)
Trek back through Pheriche and continue up the broad valley bottom towards Dugla. From Dugla, the trail starts steeply to climb up beside the glacial moraine and after a few hours it leads to Lobuje. Overnight lodge.

Day 11:

Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,600m) via Gorak Shep (5,220m)
Gorak Shep, the site of the 1953 expedition's base camp, is 3 hours beyond Lobuje. You'll drop bags here and continue to base camp in about 1 hour 40 minutes. If visiting in the spring, you go to our team's Base Camp for lunch. Return to Gorak Shep for the night. Overnight lodge.

Day 12:

Climb Kalar Pattar (5,550m) or 2nd opportunity to go to Everest Base Camp (5,600m).
You make an ascent of Kala Pattar in the morning for the best light and views of Everest. If you didn't walk to Everest Base Camp yesterday, you can do so today. Descend to Lobuje. Overnight lodge.

Day 13 - 16:

Return trek to Lukla
Descend back down the Khumbu Valley via Pangboche, Khumjung and Phakding. Overnight lodges. Option of flying to Lukla via Helicopter and onwards to Kathmandu by fixed-wing, for additional cost (must be booked for and paid in advance).

Day 17:

Fly Lukla to Ramechhap
Return drive to Kathmandu. Overnight hotel.

Day 18:

At Leisure in Kathmandu
A chance to explore the bustling capital, with its beautiful temples and bustling markets. Overnight hotel.

Day 19:

Fly home
Airport transfer. For those joining "land-only", you should book your flight home today.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary, but as this is adventure travel in a remote mountain region, we cannot guarantee it! Weather conditions, availability of porters and the health of team members can all contribute to changes. The guides and their Sherpa assistants will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if necessary.

Since 1987 Jagged Globe has been at the forefront of planning, organising and leading mountaineering expeditions and courses, backcountry skiing and high-altitude treks. We were the first British company to organise a professionally-led expedition to Everest and continue to offer high-quality, innovative trips to mountains worldwide.

Our Travel Partners Jagged Globe

  • Leadership. Jagged Globe mountaineering expeditions are led by professional leaders, the vast majority of whom are British. The exceptions are in Ecuador, Peru and Colombia, where the local Mountain Guides are excellent, speak good English and are qualified to IFMGA standard. Our treks are normally led by highly-experienced and trained local guides, though we do send UK leaders on some of our tougher treks. When considering the demands of the trip, we select the best and most approprate leader for the task.
  • Dedicated staff. We are all active climbers, trekkers and skiers, so can advise you about where to go and what to expect. You can meet us in person on a Pre-Trip Weekend or you are welcome to visit us in Sheffield.
  • More Acclimatisation = More Success. Virtually all of our trips travel to mountains whose height exceeds 3,000m. Our starting point when designing any itinerary is the ascent profile and ensuring that you have enough time to acclimatise naturally. Our trip durations are often longer than cheaper operators, but the extra time gives you a greater chance of success.
  • Training Courses. In additon to our Pre-Trip Weekends, we offer climbing, mountaineering and skiing courses in the UK, Norway and European Alps, so that you can learn the skills needed to participate in a high-altitude climb or Polar trip.

Our Trip Guarantee

When we guarantee a trip and you book it, we promise that:

  • The trip will run.
  • It will leave on the date advertised (unless, it is beyond our control, for example, the airline changes something).
  • The "Land Only" price will not increase after you have booked.
