Discover Your Ability 2020.

Earlier this year Able2B planned to have a joint event with Norwich School to celebrate inclusivity and change perceptions of disability. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 the event that was due to take place in May was cancelled

We are still very keen to hold an event so that the children can still celebrate these things and give people a chance to know each other and each other’s challenges by training together whilst still being able to help us raise money and improve disability awareness. We want to make this as big an event as we can, with as many participants as we can getting involved to create a huge impact.

We have been in discussion with Norwich School and also using the experience we have gained providing virtual services to those with disabilities over Covid-19 we have come up with an alternative event that we hope you will still wish to be involved with.

We are hoping this will give people something to get involved in over the summer, when a lot of other activities may still be cancelled but also allow us to come together in early September with a virtual event that will provide an opportunity to celebrate managing through such a difficult time together in an inclusive and fun way. We hope it with have impact and make a statement to the people of Norfolk and as now a virtual event, beyond.

The alternative plan would be as follows:

  1. 2 virtual ‘training’ sessions on Friday 14th and 28th August at 9am led by Jon Thaxton and run using the zoom platform where we will teach all participants to boxercise and learn a number of sequences to use on the event day. Participants will just log into zoom and as such can take part from anywhere at that time.
  1. Instead of partners we will create small groups and each group can chose to communicate via email, social media, telephone or however they wish in between the sessions to get to know each other and also come up with ways to raise the profile of the event itself and get sponsored and fundraise. How much each individual or group does is up to them. You can form your own group or ‘bubble’ to complete the boxathon together on the day (as long as government guidelines are followed).
  1. A virtual 90 min Boxathon on Sunday September 13th at 10.30am using the methods that have been taught in the sessions with everyone supporting each other to complete the 90 minutes. Having a link virtually through zoom means anyone anywhere can get involved even if shielding.

As one of the aims is to get have the biggest virtual Boxathon we can possibly have we will be opening the event up to any age, anywhere in the country, with or without a disability(sign up fee is a £15 donation to Able2B). So get your family, friends, colleagues to get involved and let us celebrate Able2B by making this the biggest boxathon we can!! If we can create a big enough event we should gain some press interest and raise the profile of the need for inclusivity and improve disability awareness.

We really hope you want to be involved with this alternate event. It could become an amazing display of inclusivity and a celebration of coming together after having needed to be apart for such a long period of time.
