Climb Slieve Donard is back! Are you ready to take on Northern Ireland’s highest peak?

Having missed out on the last 2 years due to covid, we are thrilled to welcome back our annual Climb Slieve Donard event for 2022! This will be our 10th in-person Slieve Donard challenge and we want you to help us celebrate it in style in support of children and families all over Ireland impacted by cancer. Those boots were made for walking, so it’s time to get your colleagues, family, and friends together and put your best foot forward to ensure no child has to face cancer alone!

The Challenge

We are asking you to take on and conquer Northern Ireland’s highest peak, Slieve Donard, in the beautiful Mourne Mountains and raise £100 / €120 to help us support families impacted by cancer when they need us the most.

Setting off from our registration point at Shimna Integrated College at 9.45am, you will walk for approximately 5.8 miles in total, climbing to 2,550ft, and taking in the spectacular Mourne views around you. On a clear day, you will see as far as Scrabo Tower, the Wicklow Mountains, and Isle of Man!

Please note this event is classed as a medium difficulty challenge! You will walk consistently uphill for 2.9 miles through first the forest, and then up the rocky mountain path. It will take an average of 4-5 hours to complete, and we ask ALL participants to wear walking boots for your own safety and in line with Life Adventure, our event provider, health and safety procedures. Dogs unfortunately are not allowed to join. We love your pooches, but with us taking so many people up Slieve Donard at the one time, it is for our participants safety and those of other walkers!

The Impact

Every month another 30 families across Ireland told the devastating news that their child has cancer. Childhood cancer is a life changing and challenging experience and places extreme pressures on the whole family.

Every mile you conquer and every pound you raise will make sure we can be there to help families during one of the most difficult times in their lives and we can continue providing them with a safe and supportive environment at Daisy Lodge.

Nestled in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains, Daisy Lodge is a haven where families can enjoy quality time together when they have spent months apart. While we can offer short breaks to families from all over Ireland free of charge, for every one family we support there are another six we cannot reach. Not only do we need your support in helping to provide nurturing short breaks at Daisy Lodge in Newcastle, Co. Down, we also need your support in building our second Daisy Lodge in Cong, Co. Mayo, to ensure we can reach even more families impacted by cancer.

What you get

Not only will you have the satisfaction of conquering Slieve Donard and knowing you are supporting children and their families through their cancer journey, but you will also have:

  • A fundraising pack full of hints and tips to help you reach your £100 / €120 sponsorship target.
  • A dedicated member of our Fundraising Team to ask for support and advice and who are only ever a phone call or email away - we can provide balloons, banners, buckets… whatever you may need!
  • A celebratory BBQ at the end of the climb in recognition of your incredible achievements, and the 10th anniversary of our climb!
  • A personalised certificate as a thank you for your participation and amazing efforts in the weeks following the event.
  • PLUS, if you manage to raise £150 / €180, you will also receive a free Cancer Fund for Children branded backpack or travel coffee mug!

So, what are you waiting for? Sign up today and join us for a climb not to forget!
